Black-headed gull

Up close and personal the black-headed gull’s hood is more chocolatey brown. At this time of year it doesn’t wear a hood at all – just to confuse the amateur birder!

Black-headeds are opportunistic, fearless feeders. Their favoured diet, apart from bread and chips, includes worms, fish, insects – anything really.

Its scientific name means laughing gull. More of a cackle than a laugh.

Svelte, pretty, noisy, the black-headed gull ever a snap shot challenge.
